Cheaper Zapier Alternatives in 2026: Make, n8n and Pabbly Connect

Zapier is the easiest automation tool to start with. It is also one of the most expensive once your workflows start running every day. If your Zapier bill keeps climbing, you are not doing anything wrong — it is simply how Zapier’s pricing works.

In this guide I compare three cheaper alternatives — Make, n8n and Pabbly Connect — and cost the same workflow on each of them, so you can see the difference in real numbers.

Prices below were checked in October 2026. Automation tools change their pricing often, so always confirm on the official pricing page before you buy.

Zapier bills by tasks. A task is generally one successful action step. Triggers do not count, and some built-in steps (such as Filters, Paths and Formatter) are not billed as tasks. The examples below assume each listed action is a billable app action.

That sounds small until you multiply it:

  • A Zap with 4 billable app actions uses 4 tasks per run (built-in steps such as Filters or Formatter may be free)
  • Run it 500 times a month and you use 2,000 tasks
  • The entry Professional plan includes only 750 tasks

Zapier’s current plans (October 2026; official pricing page):

Plan Monthly billing Annual billing (per month) Tasks / month
Free $0 $0 100 (two-step Zaps only)
Professional varies by task tier from $19.99 750 base tier
Team varies by task tier from $69 task limit depends on selected tier

The free plan includes 100 tasks and two-step Zaps. Professional starts at $19.99/month when billed annually for 750 tasks; higher usage may incur pay-per-task charges or require a higher task tier. Confirm the final price in Zapier’s billing calculator for your region and billing term.

1. Make — the best all-round Zapier alternative

Section titled “1. Make — the best all-round Zapier alternative”

Make (formerly Integromat) is the closest thing to Zapier, but cheaper and more flexible. You build scenarios on a visual canvas, with branches, filters, iterators and error handling that Zapier either lacks or charges more for.

Pricing (checked October 2026; see Make’s official pricing page and verify by region and billing term):

  • Free: 1,000 credits per month, 2 active scenarios
  • Core: $9/month billed annually (about $10.59 month-to-month) for 10,000 credits. Core includes unlimited active scenarios, scheduling down to one minute and API access
  • Pro and Teams include the same 10,000 credits — you pay for extra features, not extra volume

How billing works: each module action typically uses one credit, but some operations use more and some modules (such as routers and error-handler modules) are free. A five-action scenario is therefore an estimate, not a guaranteed five credits. Extra credits cost 25% more than the included per-credit rate, so compare that with moving to a larger tier.

Good for: non-developers who want more power than Zapier at a fraction of the price.

Watch out for: iterators and polling triggers can burn credits quickly. Use webhooks where you can.

Bonus: if you sign up through this link, you get the Make Core plan free for your first month, including 10,000 credits.

2. n8n — the cheapest at scale (if you can self-host)

Section titled “2. n8n — the cheapest at scale (if you can self-host)”

n8n is open source, and it bills differently from everyone else: one execution = one full workflow run, no matter how many steps it has. A 20-step workflow costs the same as a 2-step one.

You can use it in two ways:

n8n Cloud (managed by n8n):

  • Starter: €20/month billed annually (~€24 month-to-month) for 2,500 executions
  • Pro: €50/month billed annually (~€60 monthly) for 10,000 executions

Self-hosted Community Edition:

  • The software is free, with unlimited workflows and executions
  • You pay only for the server — a small VPS is enough for most personal and small-business workloads

I run self-hosted n8n on my own VPS, and for long multi-step workflows this is by far the cheapest option. The trade-off is that you are responsible for the server: updates, backups and security. If you want to go this way, I wrote a step-by-step guide: Self-host n8n with Docker, PostgreSQL and WireGuard.

Good for: technical users, long workflows, AI agents, high volume.

Watch out for: on n8n Cloud, workflows that poll every few minutes eat executions fast — a check every 10 minutes is about 4,300 executions a month on its own, more than the Starter plan includes.

Pabbly Connect is a simpler, cheaper Zapier-style tool. Its main selling point is volume for the price.

Pricing (2026):

  • Free: 100 tasks per month, 2 workflows
  • Standard: around $16/month billed annually for 10,000 tasks
  • Lifetime deals: one-time payments starting around $249 for a fixed monthly task allowance — rare in this market

How billing works: only actions in external apps count as tasks. Triggers and Pabbly’s internal steps (filters, formatters, routers) are free. That makes many workflows noticeably cheaper than on Zapier.

Good for: small businesses with simple, high-volume workflows (forms → CRM → email) on a tight budget.

Watch out for: paid plans are mostly sold annually, the app catalog is smaller than Zapier’s, and the builder is less powerful than Make or n8n.

Check Pabbly Connect pricing →

Let’s cost one realistic workflow: a website form submission → add a row to Google Sheets → create a contact in a CRM → send a welcome email → notify Slack. That is 1 trigger + 4 actions, running 500 times a month.

Tool Usage per month Plan you need Approx. cost / month
Zapier 4 billable tasks × 500 = 2,000 tasks Professional, 750-task base tier plus pay-per-task usage or a higher task tier Check Zapier’s billing calculator for the 2,000-task tier
Make ~5 credits × 500 = 2,500 credits Core, 10,000 credits $9 (annual) / ~$10.59 (monthly)
n8n Cloud 500 executions Starter €20 (annual) / ~€24 (monthly)
n8n self-hosted 500 executions Community (free) Server cost only
Pabbly Connect 4 tasks × 500 = 2,000 tasks Standard, 10,000 tasks ~$16 (annual)

Usage estimates assume each external action is billable and no retries, branches or extra modules run. Prices and task tiers vary by region and billing term; verify them on the Zapier, Make and n8n pricing pages before buying.

Now double the workflow to 9 actions: Zapier would use up to 4,500 billable tasks if all nine actions count; Make’s credits depend on the modules used, while n8n still counts 500 executions. The longer your workflows, the bigger n8n’s advantage.

  • You want Zapier’s ease, but cheaper → Make. The best balance of power, price and ease of use for most people.
  • You have long workflows, high volume or AI agents → n8n. Self-host it for the lowest cost, or use n8n Cloud if you don’t want to manage a server.
  • You run simple workflows and every dollar counts → Pabbly Connect. Especially if a lifetime deal fits your volume.
  • You run only a handful of tasks a month → stay on Zapier Free. Switching costs time; it only pays off once your bill grows.
  1. Count your real usage. Look at your Zapier task history for the last month and estimate runs × steps.
  2. Check your apps. Make sure every app you use has an integration (or at least an HTTP/webhook option) in the new tool.
  3. Rebuild your busiest Zap first. That is where you save the most money.
  4. Run both tools in parallel for a week before turning Zapier off.
  5. Prefer webhooks over polling in the new tool — it saves credits and executions everywhere.

Is there a completely free Zapier alternative? Yes — self-hosted n8n is free software with no execution limits. You only pay for the server it runs on.

Is Make cheaper than Zapier? For most workflows, yes, by a wide margin. Make Core includes 10,000 credits for $9/month billed annually; Zapier Professional starts at $19.99/month billed annually for a 750-task tier. The services count usage differently, so compare using your actual workflow.

Does Zapier have a free plan? Yes: 100 tasks per month and two-step Zaps only. It is enough to test, not to run a business process.

What is the difference between tasks, credits and executions? Zapier counts each action step (task), Make counts each module run (credit), and n8n counts each full workflow run (execution). That is why the same workflow can cost very different amounts on each tool.
