Comparisons overview
Automation tools look similar on their landing pages, but they bill in very different ways. Zapier counts tasks, Make counts credits, n8n counts executions, and Pabbly Connect counts only external actions. The same workflow can cost a few dollars on one tool and several times more on another.
The comparisons in this section focus on what matters when you choose:
- Real cost — the same workflow priced on each tool, not just the entry price
- How usage is counted — and which workflows make each tool expensive
- Who each tool is for — beginners, technical users, small teams
- Hidden limits — polling intervals, extra-credit pricing, plan restrictions

How these comparisons are made
Section titled “How these comparisons are made”- Prices are taken from the official pricing pages and dated, so you know how fresh they are.
- Usage estimates show the assumptions behind them, so you can redo the maths for your own workflows.
- I run self-hosted n8n on my own server; for other tools I compare published pricing and documentation.
- Some links are affiliate links. They never change the price you pay, and a tool is recommended only where it genuinely fits. See the affiliate disclosure.
